Workplace Safety and Health Awards 2008


WSH Awards This year, the Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Council, in collaboration with the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), aims to reward both organisations and persons for actively striving to create safer and healthier workplaces to protect the most valuable of assets, the employees. There are seven categories of awards up for grabs this year that reward varying achievements of organisations, teams and individuals.

In 2006, the Awards underwent a radical transformation to meet changing aims and audience. The resultant Annual Safety and Health Performance Awards (ASHPA) is a production that gives equal limelight to occupational health. It was also in 2006, that winners of the ASHPA, Occupational Safety and Health Best Practices Awards (OSHBPA) and the Innovation for OSH Awards received their awards at the same ceremony - the Workplace Safety & Health Awards 2006. Two new awards were introduced in 2007. The Safety and Health Award Recognition for Projects (SHARP) were presented to projects or worksites that achieved good safety and health performance through implementation of effective workplace safety and health management system. The Workplace Safety and Health Officer Awards were presented to 3 WSHOs in recognition of their exemplary performance and valuable contribution in safety and health.


WSH Awards 2008 - Seven types of awards up for grabs

There are seven types of awards up for grabs to reward varying degree of achievements for organisations, teams and individuals. This year, a new award, the Workplace Safety & Health Awards for Supervisors, is introduced to recognise the efforts of the supervisors in making sure that their workers worked in a safe and healthy manner.

WSH Awards for 2008

Name of Award Purpose Applicable Remarks
1. Workplace Safety & Health Best Practices Awards (WSHBPA) Recognise companies for their efforts in eliminating or controlling workplace safety and health hazards. Any workplace. Please see criteria in application form. Application closed.
2. Workplace Safety & Health Performance Awards (WSHPA) Recognise companies or organisations that have performed well in safety and health through the implementation of sound safety and health management systems. Any workplace. Please see criteria in application form. Application closed.
3. Safety and Health Award Recognition for Projects (SHARP) Awarded under WSHPA, this award recognises projects or worksites that have achieved good safety and health results through implementation of good safety and health management system. Projects or Worksites. Application closed.
4. Workplace Safety and Health Developer Awards Recognises developers who play an active role in ensuring good WSH practices among their contractors. Developers with at least three of their contractors winning the WSHPA or SHARP. Application closed.
5. WSH Innovation Awards Recognise project teams with innovative solutions which improve safety and health in workplace. Any project team which completed a safety and health project. Please see criteria in application form Application closed.
6. Workplace Safety and Health Officer Awards Recognise registered WSHOs who help cultivate safe and healthy workplaces in Singapore. Please see criteria in application form. Application closed.
7. Workplace Safety & Health Awards for Supervisors 2008 To recognise exemplary performance and valuable contribution by supervisors in cultivating safe and healthy workplaces in Singapore. Please see criteria in application form. Application closed.
Applying for an award can raise the level of awareness of safety and health within the organisation and motivate employees to work safely. An organisation that wins an award will gain recognition from customers, suppliers, shareholders and peers for the outstanding achievement in safety and health. The award will provide a benchmark for safety and health performance and help your organisation set an agenda for continuous improvement.

Who should apply?

The Workplace Safety & Health Best Practices Awards and the Workplace Safety & Health Performance Awards are open to any organisation or workplace that meets the criteria set out in the relevant application forms. They are open to all organisations and are not restricted to factories. The WSH Innovation Awards are open to teams formed to solve problems in safety and health within the workplace. The Workplace Safety and Health Officer Awards is open to Registered Workplace Safety and Health Officers only.
